Hālau Kū Māna Public Charter School
An Executive Director is needed to lead the Halau Ku Mana New Century
Charter School (HKM), a grade 6-12 Hawaiian-focused Charter School, in
Honolulu, Hawai‘i. Under the direction of Papa Ku Mana Local School
Board, the Executive Director (Po'o) is responsible for overall HKM
management and operations, fiscal and legal oversight, HKM permanent
site development, and fundraising. The appointment will be a
transitional hire in School Year 2009 -2010 becoming permanent in June
2010.
We are looking for a motivated, driven, team player with a very strong
background in administration and management. Candidates must be able
to actively advocate and provide support for HKM’s mission, vision,
programs and participants in the HKM learning ‘ohana (‘ōpio -
students, kumu - teachers, ‘ohana - families and community partners),
work well under pressure and possess exceptional leadership skills
including excellent written and verbal communication abilities,
demonstrated knowledge of Hawaiian Language and Hawaiian Culture,
detail-oriented, effectively liaise between multiple constituencies,
and fully understand the educational, financial, political, and
cultural complexity of a community-based public charter school.
Under the general supervision of the Papa Kū Māna Local School Board,
the Po‘o will be responsible for (but not limited to):
*Ensuring the academic achievement and well-being of HKM students;
*Promoting and actualizing the HKM mission and vision;
*Ensuring the organizational viability of HKM;
*Supervising the general administrative operations of HKM;
*Ensuring effectual HKM management through proper implementation of
*Developing, implementing, and managing organizational assessment mechanisms which provide performance feedback like personnel evaluations;
*Developing, implementing, and managing mechanisms for student, parent, and community assessments;
*Supervising HKM fiscal operations including budgeting, asset management, and forecasting;
*Actively seeking, securing, and managing extramural funding;
*Leading strategic planning efforts focused on promoting organizational efficiencies, best practices, and organizational growth;
*Developing partnerships with educational, community, granting, non-profit, and other appropriate agencies; and
*Creating, implementing, and managing an annual HKM development/ fundraising plan.
Minimum qualifications:
Working knowledge and understanding of Hawaiian Language, Culture, History and Contemporary Issues
Master’s Degree in Education, Education Administration (K-12), Business Administration, or related field
3-5 years experience in administrative leadership or managerial role
3-5 years experience in teaching and classroom management and assessment
3-5 years experience in grant writing, reporting, and management
3-5 years experience in fiscal/budget management
Experience with fundraising
Proficient in using computers and computer software
Preferred qualifications:
Experience in working with Hawaiian communities
Experience and familiarity with Hawai‘i Charter School laws and policies
Knowledge and experience in interdisciplinary, multi-aged curriculum development
