Halau Ku Mana Public Charter School is a Hawaiian-focused learning institution in its 10th year, currently serving 100 students in grades 6-12. Our main campus is in Makiki Valley, between the communities of Maunalaha and Papakolea, with other school sites located around the island of O`ahu.

We are looking for a humble leader who is visionary, diplomatic, compassionate and community-oriented to lead our young, ambitious faculty, staff, and learning community. Applicants must have experience in team leadership and curriculum development. Applicants must have strong interpersonal communication skills for this `ohana and community-based leadership role. Applicants also must have a working knowledge of Hawaiian culture, values, language, history, and contemporary issues.

The job includes: leading the development a strong, Hawaiian culture-based curriculum; advocating for Halau Ku Mana (HKM) programs and participants; representing HKM at off-campus meetings and events; corresponding with the community regarding curriculum, events, complaints, regrets, etc; collaborating with others internal and external to HKM to develop and sustain effective programs and services; communicating HKM information in a consistent, timely, and sensitive manner; fulfilling the requirements of state and federal mandates, including the No Child Left Behind Act; reporting to the Executive Director; directing the efforts of the school’s Leadership, including effectively managing performance (and the related appropriate discipline and review), facilitating work efforts and resources, and providing leadership, guidance, training, and coaching as needed in various departments within the organization through weekly/monthly meetings with teaching staff; providing leadership in managing various business processes, including strategic planning, scheduling, hiring personnel, budgeting, procurement, variance reporting, and other operational activities. The primary responsibility of the po`okumu is to ensure the academic viability of HKM.

Minimum qualifications:

·        Working knowledge of Hawaiian culture, values, language, history, and contemporary               

          issues.

·        Master’s Degree in Education, Business Administration, or related field

·        3-5 years experience in administrative leadership or managerial role

·         3-5 years experience and knowledge in curriculum development, scope and sequence, and 

         academic accountability.

 

Preferred qualifications:

·         Experience working with Hawaiian communities
