ABOUT OUR KULA
Hālau Kū Māna provides a culturally enriched learning environment that has empowered countless ʻōpio, or youth, to learn and grow in ways that not only develop personal wellbeing but encourage growth and wellbeing of the world around them as well.
We have the privilege of connecting with bright and curious haumāna (students) who are proud to be involved with meaningful and regenerative community projects across the pae ʻāina. To learn more about these efforts or get involved, please contact us. We love to hear from our community!
Hālau Kū Māna aims to foster lifelong learners who think, feel, and act in ways that are not only pono in the context of the world around them, but are also nourishing in the context of their na’au—their inner well-being and passions.
Grounding & Foundation
Our values are grounded in Hawaiian ancestral knowledge and practices that inform the academic skills necessary to excel in the 21st century as well as foster a sense of esteem, stewardship, and kuleana to the ‘āina, our communities and ourselves.
Connection & Direction
We encourage students to explore and inquire in ways that build upon our ancestral wisdom and bridge to other communities and cultures in a harmonious manner.
Sustenance & Empowerment
We strive to provide sustenance and empowerment for our students by promoting high academic, cultural, social, environmental, and economic standards, thus nourishing all piko: cognitive, emotional, spiritual and physical.
Designed by former kumu, the Hālau Kū Māna logo represents the three important aspects we keep with us as we journey through school and life: our past, our present, and our future. The background pattern, featured in a repetition of seven rows on our school shirts, are made up of sail and cloud shapes that symbolize the generations that have come before. The leaves of the hau are arranged with two behind and one in front, symbolizing our mākua and kūpuna who support and stand behind our keiki.
